Vanessa H. Clark, Ph.D.

I am currently working as a Junior Analytics Manager in healthcare at Opera Solutions in the San Diego office.  We solve problems, improve efficiency, and answer questions for our clients by analyzing and modeling using big data.

Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Section for Biomedical Image Analysis at University of Pennsylvania with Christos Davatzikos, Ph.D.  My research involved using machine learning techniques to mine patterns from brain images of normal and affected subjects (by cognitive decline towards Alzheimer’s Disease, or by large brain tumors).

My background is in computer science, namely optimization of radiation therapy treatment planning.  I received my Ph.D. at Washington University in St. Louis with advisors Yixin Chen, Ph.D. and Joe Deasy, Ph.D.

I am also interested in the study of energy medicine, the concept that the body is made of energy fields that affect health (such as the research done here).  This may include mind and meditation (e.g. this), effects of acupuncture or homeopathy, or impacts of energy healing (e.g. Reiki) on the body.
